Salseparella

Smilax aspera is a perennial plant in the smilacaceae family, known as spiny liseron. It is native to Australia, Mexico and Central Africa, but now grows in many parts of the Mediterranean, Asia and Africa. It occurs as a sub-arbrisseau or climbing liana measuring 1 to 3 metres. Its stem is angular, volubile, woody and thorny. Luisantes, her leaves are alternating and persistent. Its flowers are small and umbelliferous. They are usually white to yellow. Salseparella produces small globose fruits arranged in clusters of dark red colour. Salseparella is now cultivated for its roots that are of great interest in herbal therapy. The latter are long white-grey or brown rhizome up to a metre long.
