White Willow

The white willow or Salix alba L. is a very common tree that can be found in all wetlands in Europe. Belonging to the salicaceae family, this tree averages between 6 and 25 metres. It has erect, flexible and pubescent branches with alternate, elongated, lanceolate and finely denticulated leaves. Silky, white willow leaves display a whitish colour on at least one of their two sides. Its flowers are unisexual and are arranged in upright kittens. Its fruits are glabrous capsules that contain hairy and cottony seeds.
