Vergerette of Canada (Erigeron)

The Canadian orchard or Erigeron canadensis L. is an annual herbaceous plant in the asteraceae family. It is native to North and Central America but now grows around the world. In particular, it has been naturalised in Europe. The Canadian orchard is 10 cm to 1 metre tall and has a unique hairy stem. Also hairy, its leaves are alternate, narrow, sessile and serrated. They sliver and dry out at the time of flowering, which usually occurs from July to October. Set in small clusters, its flowers are yellow and tubular in the centre and yellowish-white and ligulate in the periphery. Its fruit is a small achene surmounted by an aigrette.
