Description
Geranium is widely used as an ornamental plant. Indeed, it is a flower that flourishes easily in temperate zone. The geranium blooms for a long time, and it is not uncommon to see it placed on the window edges in Europe or elsewhere. It is also a plant that offers herbal and aromatherapy qualities, which explains why its essential oil is frequently used. It has many advantages and undeniable effects on our daily well-being, in addition to being provided with a very pleasant smell.
However, geranium and pelargonium should not be confused, two distinct species. The second is the one generally used as a decorative plant. To achieve this essential oil, it is therefore the latter that is used. Its flowers are asymmetrical, unlike geranium, which has regular flowers in their appearance. The leaves have common visual characteristics. The geraniums are also rustic, while the pelargonium on its side, is a perennial plant, freeze-sensitive, from hot areas.
Thus, the pelargonium used in the production of essential oils comes mostly from Egypt. His chemical compounds give him many qualities: lemonellol, geraniol, linalol, alpha-copaene etc.
