Description
This plant forest marjoram, also bearing the name of marjolaine of Spain. Of course, this refers to the fact that it is precisely from this country, whose rocky and dry soil it appreciates. In Spain, it is also called Bela Luz, which means beautiful light. Indeed, it has a rather aesthetic appearance, with its small pink flowers, but above all, it was used in Portugal during Saint John, to celebrate the longest day of the year, by burning it. This explains why it is called the beautiful light in Portuguese.
This forest marjolaine is therefore not only a pretty plant, but also a particularly interesting ingredient to use in the field of herbal medicine. It is indeed provided with many benefits, and can also be used in the kitchen. It is generally appreciative, both fresh and dried, and gives dishes a very pleasant fragrance when used as a condiment, especially in Mediterranean cuisine, because it is found especially in this region.
Another nickname that is used to it is the thyme of Spain, especially because it is ideal as an aromatic plant. Its botanical name is moreover Thymus mastichina L. cineolifera, so the basic etymology is the same as the thyme.
