A perennial plant of the Fabaceae family, goat's milkweed can reach 1.2 metres in height.Its leaves are composed of 9 to 17 elongated leaflets, and its bluish flowers are grouped in axillary clusters.It grows in damp meadows and ditches in central and southern Europe.

Galega, also called goat grass, was used in the Middle Ages to increase milk production in animals. In the 18th century, it was recommended for its poison control properties and for treating lung diseases.
