The consoude contains isolated pyrrolizidin alkaloids that can be very toxic to the liver if used at very high doses. Especially present in the root, they are few in the aerial parts. Therefore, it is essential not to use the root for internal use. In general, scientists recommend a maximum duration of use of six weeks per year so as not to risk the accumulation of this hepatotoxic substance in the body. The consouda should not be applied to an uncleaned open wound. In addition, its use on a wound is limited to three days.
