White marrube
The white marrube is a perennial plant of the Lamiaceae family. It is about 40 cm tall and is characterized by duvetous whitish stems and embossed oval leaves, with a twisted appearance. Between May and September, white marrube dress in white flowers in the form of small compact tufts. In the kitchen, these flowers are used to enhance salads. Harvesting takes place during the summer. White marrub seeds are distinguished by their small size, oblong shape and brown colour. White marrube especially appreciate poor, dry and well drained soils. To control caterpillars, white marrube purin is recommended. Purin is the result of maceration of the coarsely chopped plant in rainwater.
