Biannual plant of the Apiacae family, Langelic can reach 2.5 metres in height. It grows in moist soils, often near rivers, and is grown mainly in Northern Europe and France. Its leaves are divided into small serrated leaflets, and its flowers, grouped in umbels, are yellow-green in colour.
Langelic, known since the Middle Ages, was used for its medicinal and culinary virtues. Legend has it that the archangel Raphael revealed his beneficial properties to Charlemagne to save his army from the plague. Used in Scandinavian cuisine from the 12th century, it is also popular for its candied stems and liqueurs.

To prepare a tea, infuse 1 to 2 grams of dried root in 250 ml of boiling water for 10 minutes. Drink 2 to 3 cups a day before meals.
Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. May increase skin sensitivity to the sun, so it is recommended to use sun protection.
