Serpolet

The serpolet or thymus serpyllum is a perennial aromatic plant in the lamiaceae family. It is native to Asia and Europe and grows everywhere in the wild in France. It can be found on roads, slopes and hillsides. It is easily recognized by the full-bodied and pleasant smell that emerges when it is wrinkled. The serpole has branched branches with small oblong or elongated leaves, averaging 5-30 cm. The twigs produce short floral stems composed of small, very tight violet flowers. Serpolet is very popular in condiment, but is also used in herbal medicine.
